Historical Note

Bell P-39 Airacobra fighters began arriving in the USSR under the lend-lease program in 1942. It was Soviet pilots who became some of the most able operators of this family of piston-powered aircraft. In some air regiments pilots requested the Airacobra machine guns to be removed from the wings to increase the machine's flight characteristics. The warplane of Alexander Pokryshkin was also modernized according to this request. The great pilot with the call sign “Sotka” (“White Hundred”), who was the second most effective ace of the allied Coalition, said that his aircraft in combat was an extension of his body and mind.

In battle

The crushing damage of the 37mm cannon's shells destroys even the biggest and toughest planes with a couple of accurate shots. But keep in mind the low ammo capacity of the cannon and make each salvo carefully. For light targets, such as fighters, a couple of large-caliber Brownings located in the front of the fuselage will be enough.

The ★P-39N-0 Pokryshkin is a perfect balance of high maneuverability, responsive control and excellent firepower. The aircraft can safely go up against any enemy – or even several at once! – at low and medium altitudes. Try to get as close to the enemy as possible and fire accurate shorts!
