[Coming Soon] M56 Scorpion: The Killer Lurking in the Tall Grass

Introducing a versatile lineup of U.S. Cold War-era Rank V vehicles in the upcoming War Thunder Mobile update!

M56 Scorpion Platoon (Rank V)

The M56, nicknamed "Scorpion" by soldiers, was a light self-propelled artillery unit designed to provide artillery support for airborne troops. Its compactness and light weight allowed it to be airdropped from military transport planes, enhancing the tactical capabilities of airborne units. Adopted into service in 1958, the M56 saw limited use during the Vietnam War before being replaced by M551 Sheridan tanks.

In War Thunder Mobile, the M56 Scorpion stands out as one of the most compact combat vehicles, measuring just two meters in height. However, its crew is exposed to the dangers of battle due to minimal armor; most components are constructed from structural steel to keep the vehicle lightweight.

The little "Scorpion" is not only agile and swift but also formidably armed! Its 90mm M56 SAU gun offers a versatile selection of ammunition. Commanders can opt for potent sub-caliber armor-piercing shells, exotic armor-piercing-fugitive (HESH) shells, effective shaped-charge shells capable of taking on almost any foe head-on, and excellent armor-piercing shells.

The compact yet agile M56 proves to be a valuable asset in any team thanks to its size, mobility, and potent firepower. It can serve as a lone sniper, utilizing cover inaccessible to larger vehicles, or as direct fire support for allied tanks, taking cover behind teammates' wide sides after each shot.

Before deploying the new platoon into battle, let's delve into the characteristics of the vehicles intended to support the M56 Scorpion, taking into account the enemy's tactics.

Looking to engage in a positional battle with the need for a mobile medium tank? Look no further than the T25, the experimental American tank designed to succeed the reliable Sherman. With superior armor compared to the M56, its 90mm gun excels in both close and medium-range firefights.

The T26E5, a special variant of the renowned Pershing, earns its place in the heavy tank category with enhanced frontal protection. Ideal for urban combat and point defense, its reinforced armor excels in frontal engagements. While the added weight slightly reduces its mobility, the T26E5 remains anything but sluggish!

The M42Duster self-propelled anti-aircraft gun was widely used during the Vietnam War. Its lightweight mobile chassis, open compartment and dual rapid-firing 40mm cannons made the Duster an invaluable support vehicle for ground troops – often employed for convoy escort and perimeter defense rather than solely air defense duties.

Important:

The M56 Scorpion (Rank V) Platoon will be available in the Medium Trophy of the Tank Campaign with the start of the new Season.
