[Coming Soon] XM1 Platoon: Way to the “Abrams”

The new U.S. platoon will be led by the XM1 (Chrysler), an experimental prototype that paved the way for the development of the M1 Abrams main battle tank.

XM1 (Chrysler) Platoon (Rank VIII)

Historical note

In the early 1970s, following the cancellation of the MBT-70 main battle tank project with Germany, the United States initiated the XM1 program. The program's primary goals were to achieve an affordable cost and a high level of protection. Development efforts were undertaken by two corporations: General Motors and Chrysler.

Chrysler selected the M60A1 tank as the foundation for its design, aiming to modernize it with the latest advancements in tank engineering. In 1976, both Chrysler and General Motors presented their prototype tanks for testing. Ultimately, Chrysler's prototype emerged victorious, serving as the foundation for the development of the M1 Abrams, the U.S. Army's main battle tank.

The U.S. XM1 (Chrysler) Platoon will appear in the upcoming War Thunder Mobile content update at Rank VIII. Its lead tank offers commanders an excellent balance of high speed, powerful armor-piercing shells, and reliable protection for its rank.

XM1 (Chrysler)

The XM1(C) prototype differs significantly from the mass-produced M1 Abrams, yet it showcases recognizable features of the modern main battle tank of the United States. While the hull lacks robust protection, the XM1(C) has a strong chance of avoiding catastrophic damage from a single shot, thanks to the well-angled upper frontal armor and the spacious crew layout.

The turret, however, is exceptionally well-protected, particularly in the frontal area. Notably, it features blowout panels that mitigate the risk of fatal explosions by venting ammunition detonations from the turret's rear compartment.

The 105mm gun on the XM1(C) is an American copy of the famous British L7 cannon, offering a variety of ammunition options: HESH, HEATFS, smoke rounds, and two types of armor-piercing shells: APFSDS and APDS.

The APFSDS M735 is known for its excellent armor penetration due to its superior ballistics, making it the recommended choice of ammunition.

The XM1(C) is a highly dynamic tank, featuring a 1500 HP turboshaft engine that provides excellent power and enables a top speed of around 75 km/h, making it fast and capable of easy climbs.

The XM1(C) is a highly versatile tank, making it well-suited for any battle. Now, let's take a look at the other armored vehicles in the new American platoon!

M60A1 RISE (P)

A comprehensive upgrade of the M60 tank, featuring a new turret, ERA blocks, and powerful AP shells – the ideal choice when facing enemies using ATGMs in battle.

M3 Bradley

The Bradley IFV, equipped with a 25mm autocannon and ATGM launcher, is a high-ranking classic. With its excellent mobility and powerful firepower, it serves as an outstanding scout and flanker.

M247

The M247 Sergeant York SPAAG is notable for the high damage of its 40mm shells and its strong defensive capabilities.
