[Coming Soon] Myoko Heavy Cruiser: one warrior is worth an army

The new Japanese cruiser boasts impressive firepower, excellent speed, and remarkable survivability.

Historical note

The IJN Myoko was the lead ship in a series of four heavy cruisers that broke the limitations of the Washington Naval Treaty for the first time. Launched in 1927 and commissioned in 1929, Myoko participated in several key World War II battles, including the Battle of the Java Sea, the Battle of Midway, and the Battle of Leyte Gulf.

In 1944, the IJN Myoko suffered severe damage from airstrikes and was unable to return to Japan. The cruiser remained in Singapore, serving as a stationary anti-aircraft platform alongside another heavy cruiser, the Takao. Both ships survived the war but were handed over to the Royal Navy afterward and sunk as target ships in 1946.

IJN Myoko (Rank II)

The heavy cruiser IJN Myoko is set to join the ranks of the Imperial Japanese Navy in War Thunder Mobile. This well-rounded warship boasts notable strengths without any significant weaknesses, making it a formidable addition to the fleet.

IJN Myoko features an unconventional layout for its main guns, with five turrets housing a total of ten 203 mm cannons. This design allows all guns to fire without the need to expose the ship’s broadside at a 90° angle to the enemy.

The secondary armament includes four dual-purpose 127 mm gun mounts, complemented by excellent automatic anti-aircraft artillery. Additionally, the cruiser is equipped with two rotating torpedo tubes mounted on either side of the hull.

IJN Myoko’s armor belt and overall protection are average for its class. However, its excellent mobility and large crew ensure it can endure prolonged enemy fire while consistently dealing significant damage to opponents.

The IJN Myoko excels both as part of an allied group and in solo combat. Position the ship at a distance, carefully rotate the hull, and aim precisely before unleashing a salvo. Its mobility makes it a challenging target, while its 203 mm guns are capable of engaging any cruiser effectively at all ranges.
