The USS Helena was the ninth and final ship of the Brooklyn project. Named after the capital of Montana, the cruiser’s entry into World War II was as unexpected and tragic as it was for everyone in the United States. While in port at Pearl Harbor, the ship was damaged by a Japanese torpedo and required repairs. Afterward, the USS Helena swiftly returned to action, participating in several key Pacific battles, including the night skirmish at Cape Esperance, the Battle of Guadalcanal, and the landing in the Solomon Islands. During a night battle in Kula Bay, the cruiser was torpedoed by Japanese destroyers and quickly sank. The heroic ship was depicted on war loan bonds issued in 1943. In 2018, the ship's wreck was discovered at a depth of 860 meters during a search mission.

In the next major content update for War Thunder Mobile, the new American light cruiser USS Helena will make its debut. This ship is poised to become one of the best in its class at Rank II. A warship's primary strength lies in its armament, and the USS Helena does not disappoint. Its main battery boasts an impressive array of fifteen 152mm guns with very fast reload times. Additionally, the cruiser is equipped with eight multipurpose 127mm guns in four double-barreled mounts. The firepower of the USS Helena's broadside is comparable to that of a heavy cruiser!

The USS Helena can hold its own against destroyers and cruisers, thanks to its relatively good armor, numerous turrets, and large crew. This allows it to endure enemy fire for extended periods while continuing to return fire. Despite its resilience, the USS Helena maintains average speed and maneuverability compared to other light cruisers. Although it lacks torpedo weapons, its air defense battery is excellent, with 40mm guns providing a dense barrage against aircraft at low and medium altitudes.

The USS Helena is highly versatile in battle. Its commander can employ a variety of tactics, including aggressive maneuvers, even against heavy cruisers, without the ship failing. However, when battleships and battlecruisers appear on the horizon, it’s wise to seek shelter, as the Helena's defenses aren't sufficient against such formidable opponents. While heavier teammates lead the charge, the Helena's guns can effectively support allies from the second line.

The USS Helena also has 4 scout planes, providing the commander with excellent battlefield awareness. With skillful use, these aircraft can even deal significant damage to fast-moving submarines, catching them off guard with unexpected aerial attacks.
