A new top U.S. platoon is coming to War Thunder Mobile in the next update! The virtuoso of ambushes and flank traversals: the MBT-70 and its platoon!
The MBT-70 (or KPz-70) was a joint US/German project to create an advanced MBT to replace the outdated M60 and Leopard I. This new tank combined some of the most advanced developments of tank design – a multi-purpose gun launcher, spaced and combined armor to counter shaped-charge weapons, a hydropneumatic suspension, complex electronics in the fire control system, a remote-controlled 20 mm autocannon and other components.
Due to difficulties in the joint development and a significant increase in the cost of the tank, the project was canceled first by Germany, and later in the United States. But soon, War Thunder Mobile commanders will have the opportunity to try all of the combined power of technology of the Western school of tank building in battle!
The American MBT-70 is a mobile tank with excellent protection against shaped-charge shells and rockets, very high mobility and a 152 mm cannon that can fire several types of shells (including APFSDS) and launch ATGMs! On the turret roof is a 20 mm cannon, which is excellent at destroying lightly armored vehicles and low-flying aircraft.
Despite the fact that the MBT-70 is a main battle tank, its dynamic characteristics allow you to play it as a light tank. Rapid acceleration on any ground, easy climbing up a steep hill, and high speed – the MBT-70 will be the first to capture the most favorable ambush positions, and will be able to flank the enemy at the beginning of the battle! While many light tanks have problems with the damage of their tank guns, the MBT-70’s 152 mm gun can penetrate the frontal armor of most opponents without any problems.
And here are the teammates of this amazing tank – a sniper, missile launcher and anti-aircraft vehicle!
This is one of the later modifications of the American M60 medium tank, featuring advanced electronics and ERA covering the hull and turret. This version of the tank is armed with an accurate 105 mm gun with a reinforced APFSDS shell – even at long ranges, this shell penetrates almost any enemy that it encounters!
The iconic Bradley in this modification is armed with a fast-firing 25 mm autocannon with armor-piercing shells and a TOW ATGM launcher. The high speed of this tracked reconnaissance vehicle makes it possible to change firing positions rapidly, confusing the enemy.
The M247 Sergeant York may not be the fastest and most compact SPAAG, but it is one of the most powerful in its class. The paired 40 mm automatic cannons fire proximity fused HE rounds against aircraft and armor-piercing rounds against light vehicles.
*Commanders, platoon vehicle lineup, vehicle specifications and camouflages are still under development and may differ from those in this article.
The MBT-70 Platoon (Rank IX) becomes accessible once you reach level 17* of the tank campaign. You have the option to instantly upgrade your campaign level using Golden Eagles to gain faster access to this platoon compared to other players, or you can progress through battles to level up.
Please remember that as soon as Campaign Level 18 becomes available, Level 17 and 17* platoons will merge into a single Level 17. Vehicles purchased for Golden Eagles will remain as a premium even after the levels are merged. The final coefficients on the two vehicles will be the same as the level 17 vehicles.
