The development of the AMX-50 heavy tank was paralleled by a project to create a lighter tank with an oscillating turret, an autoloader and a 100 mm gun. The new tank was developed by the Lorraine-Dietrich company, which had previously presented a promising tracked chassis with pneumatic wheels instead of support rollers. The tank was powered by a 850 horsepower German Maybach gasoline engine, which provided the tank with brilliant performance due to its high power density with a curb weight of only 40 tons. Two prototypes of the tank were produced for testing, but the Lorraine 40t was not put into serial production due to France’s accession to NATO and the purchase of American M47 Patton tanks.

In War Thunder Mobile, the Lorraine 40t platoon will appear at rank VI of the French armored vehicles. It will definitely please fans who enjoy active combat! That’s because this medium tank features an oscillating turret and automatic loader, quick and fast-firing. A few words about it and other vehicles of the platoon in the article below!

The Lorraine 40t can’t boast of massive armor, but at the front of the hull, its armor plates converge at a sharp angle, and the rounded shape of the turret helps with ricochets. Due to its relatively low mass and excellent engine, the Lorraine 40t will be one of the fastest tanks at its rank. It will always be able to take the best positions on the map faster than anyone else in its team and can instantly roll back behind cover after firing.

The armament of the Lorraine 40t is another strong point of this tank. The 100mm cannon is as accurate as possible, with high muzzle energy. Commanders will have access to two types of shells – HE and APCBC, which has excellent penetration and not a bad armor-piercing effect precisely because of its high flight speed. But the most important thing is the drum-type automatic loader – 8 shells are fired from the this loader with a gap of only 4 seconds between shots! This feature of this tank gives Lorraine 40t commanders the opportunity to destroy two or more enemies in a row in one skirmish. After expending shells in the autoloader, it’s highly recommended to roll back behind cover to reload, because it's going to take a long time.

The Lorraine 40t platoon teammates will be three excellent combat vehicles.

AMX-30 AuF1

This massive tank features a 155mm self-propelled gun with an automatic loader and powerful high-explosive rounds. It does monstrous damage, especially at short and medium ranges, but is very vulnerable to tank shells and even autocannons. The AMX-30 AuF1 will be a great support vehicle for allied tanks!

AMX-13

One of the representatives of the glorious family of French light tanks with an oscillating turret and a drum magazine – good mobility, small size and high rate of fire make this tank one of the best scouts and tanks for quickly capturing points at its rank.

TPK 6.41

The ACMAT TPK 6.41 is equipped with two 20mm Oerlikon KAD cannons on a three-axle army tractor chassis. The total rate of fire of the TPK 6.41 is 2000 rounds per minute – a very impressive figure! This vehicle is best used in good cover against aircraft or in defense of allied rear areas when the cannon belts are loaded with armor-piercing shells.
