[Coming Soon] T54E2 Platoon: A Popular Classic

A strong and balanced platoon featuring American tanks from the Cold War period, led by the T54E2.

T54E2 Platoon (Rank VII)

Historical note

In the early 1950s, the USA began development on a promising medium tank with improved firepower. The vehicle was designed on the chassis of the M48 Patton tank with a new cast turret for mounting a 105 mm gun. As part of the T54 project, a prototype with an oscillating turret and automatic loader was developed, designated T54E1. A simpler and cheaper version with a cast turret with reduced frontal area and no automatic loader was the T54E2 prototype.

T54E2 prototypes were tested at Fort Knox and Aberdeen Proving Grounds until January 1957. At the end of the tests, the prototype was deemed unsuccessful. The turret was dismantled and subsequently used as a target for testing the T95 prototype tank, while the chassis was returned for production of serial tanks. To date, only photographs, sketches and blueprints of the T54E2 have been kept.

In our game, the T54E2 will be the leader of the new American rank VII platoon, appearing in the next seasonal update. This is a well-balanced tank that is especially good defensively. It will show itself well in a group of allies in urban locations or in the defense of points in fairly open terrain.

T54E2

The T54E2 is classic tank with traditional gameplay features familiar to US arounded vehicles. The M48 Patton chassis with its smoothly converging upper and lower hull armor surfaces at the front provide a good level of protection and give the commander a good chance of ricocheting APBC shells. The cast turret of the T54E2 also has smooth contours and a reduced area around the gun mantlet. This should be taken advantage of by trying to meet enemies head-on without turning the hull or turret.

The main feature of the prototype is its long-barreled 105 mm gun. This gun has a high muzzle velocity and good ballistics. It can fire a solid APBC shell with good damage, a HEATFS shell that performs best at long ranges, and an APDS shell for use against the most heavily protected enemies.

After each shot, we recommend to roll back into cover to reload safely, as the lack of an automatic loader makes the process quite long.

The maneuverability of this tank, with its weight of almost 50 tons, can be called average. The vehicle moves a little slower than most medium and a little faster than most heavy tanks. Stick with a group of allies, where you can utilize the high potential of the 105 mm gun and be protected by teammates while reloading.

The T54E2 platoon mates were interesting vehicles that are definitely going to appeal to the experienced commander.

M60

Without a doubt, the M60 was the main tank of the USA during the Cold War. Its successful design made the tank very popular in different countries around the world. Many armored vehicles of various types were developed on the basis of the M60. A completely versatile vehicle with good armor at and a powerful gun!

M551 Sheridan

The M551 Sheridan is a light amphibious tank with small dimensions and excellent maneuverability. The 152 mm cannon is also a launcher for the MGM-51 Shillelagh ATGMs!

M163

A classic SPAAG at the higher ranks for the USA with a 20 mm Vulcan six-barrel cannon on the chassis of the M113 armored personnel carrier. Not bad mobility and high rate of fire!

*Platoon vehicle lineup, vehicle specifications and camouflages are still under development and may differ from those in this article.

The T54E2 Platoon (Rank VII) will be available from the Big Trophy of the Tank Campaign or from an offer after the start of the Season.
