A new "fish" armed with missiles – the modern German Type 212A submarine!

Historical note

The Type 212A non-nuclear submarine is the product of a joint German-Italian development initiative that began in 1994. The project aimed to produce four submarines for the German Navy and four for Italy.

The lead submarine of the series was commissioned into the German Navy in 2005. Today, Type 212A submarines remain in active service with both Germany and Italy.

The modern Type 212A submarine, equipped with new missiles, will be the second missile-armed submarine introduced in WTM.

The Type 212A will be equipped with the new IRIS-T missiles (IDAS variant), a system specifically designed to protect submarines from airborne threats. However, these missiles can also target surface vessels. They can be launched both from a surfaced position and at periscope depth, making the submarine harder to detect and less vulnerable to artillery fire.

In addition to guided missiles, the Type 212A will be armed with 533mm torpedoes, the standard weapon of submarines in the game. However, it lacks deck artillery, leaving it vulnerable between missile launches when surfaced.

The Type 212A is a modern submarine with decent speed capabilities. However, it cannot rely on speed alone, as most ships can easily overtake it. Its real advantage lies in its improved submersion time allowing it to stay underwater longer than mid-20th-century submarines, making it harder to detect.
