The most advanced version of the legendary Mustang will be the pride of the American research tech tree.
The P-51H series fighters were the last mass-produced modification of the legendary “Mustangs” - the most technically-advanced and polished version of them. The airplane received a new engine with a system of injection of a water-methanol mix into the cylinders, thus for a short time the engine power could exceed 2000 hp. In addition, the P-51H was characterized by a new shape of the cockpit cupola and improved fuselage aerodynamics The planes were built in the very final stages of World War II and never took part in that war or in the following wars.
The P-51H, like other “Mustangs”, was designed for escorting strategic bombers and high altitude combat. However, this modification also received a good set of suspended armament, which significantly expands the combat abilities of the fighter.
In aerial combat, the most advantageous tactics for the P-51H are attacks from altitude. Having climbed higher at the beginning of the battle, you can hunt high-altitude bombers and engage in duels with other late piston fighters. The Mustang's speed potential is fully realized at high altitudes. It is perfect for “boom-and-zoom” tactics - dive from a high altitude to attack with a quick retreat back to altitude.
The P-51H will also be able to successfully destroy ground vehicles. On the pylons under the wing and fuselage pilot will be able to mount bombs up to 1000 lb, large HVAR missiles and small M8s. The engine with a powerful afterburner will be very useful here, but due to the low maneuverability we recommend to have an altitude reserve, which can always be exchanged for speed.
*Commanders, the characteristics and camouflage of vehicles are preliminary and may differ from those given in the article.
The new aircraft will be available in the US research tech tree at Rank VII. You can speed up research for GE to get access to top planes before other players, or you can earn research points in battles.
