XM1 (GM) Platoon (Rank VIII)

Historical note

In a competition to create a new American MBT, Chrysler and General Motors each produced prototypes. General Motors presented the XM-1 (GM), and Chrysler presented the XM-1 (C) in 1976. Though the vehicles had identical dimensions, configuration, and the 105mm M68 rifled cannon, they differed in key details.

General Motors' prototype featured a traditional diesel engine and a running gear with six rollers per side. In contrast, Chrysler's design utilized a more economical turboshaft engine and a seven-roller running gear with individual torsion bar suspension. Ultimately, Chrysler's model was chosen for mass production due to its lower cost, even though the General Motors prototype was considered more reliable but expensive. Nonetheless, the General Motors vehicle fits well within the American rank VIII vehicle lineup.

XM-1 (GM)

The XM1 (GM)'s mobility resembles light tanks or IFVs, offering excellent speed enabling it to quickly capture points, reposition between flanks, and rear attacks.

The 105mm cannon offers a wide range of shells. The versatile M735 APFSDS can penetrate most enemies. Notably, the APHE shells, rarely seen on American vehicles, are highly effective against light vehicles, piercing armor and detonating inside the hull for devastating damage.

The protection of the tank is light and is primarily designed to counter HEAT and ATGMs. The front part of the hull is protected with spaced armor. The forehead of the turret is fitted with a complex composite package with NERA elements. The tank is very survivable due to its spacious crew space and blowout panels in the turret armament. Even after the armor package is detonated, the crew and internal modules of the turret remain intact.

The XM1 (GM) excels in reconnaissance and sniping, not as a traditional MBT. Avoid prolonged firefights and unnecessary exposure to enemy fire. Instead, use tactical retreats to outflank enemies.

The XM1 (GM) will be joined by its platoon companions in the game.

XM803

A US experimental vehicle, was an attempt to complete the MBT-70 project with European partners. It is an agile tank equipped with a 152mm cannon-launcher, which can launch both conventional shells and Shillelagh ATGMs.

M3 Bradley

A mainstay of the U.S. Army, the M3 Bradley combines high speed, a rapid-firing 25mm autocannon, and TOW guided missiles for versatility on the battlefield.

M247

The M247 SPAAG, with its dual 40mm cannons and tracked chassis, is a capable air defense vehicle. It also excels at destroying light armored vehicles and providing support.

Ersatz Yorck (Rank IV)

Historical note

Early in World War I, the Kaiserliche Marine began constructing Mackensen-class battlecruisers with enhanced armor and weaponry. However, news of the Renown-class ships prompted a redesign. The lead ship, Ersatz Yorck, saw its main gun caliber increased to 380mm, resulting in greater displacement and reduced speed. Laid down in July 1916, its slow construction was ultimately canceled.

The Ersatz Yorck in our game is a cruiser designed with battleship-level firepower. Its 380mm guns enable it to challenge heavy cruisers, battlecruisers, and battleships alike.

Despite its heavy armament, the Ersatz Yorck retains battlecruiser-class armor and weight. It can withstand cruiser fire for extended periods, but battleship guns will penetrate its defenses. The added displacement reduces its top speed, though it remains faster than many battleships. Commanders should utilize its maneuverability or provide support from behind stronger allies, focusing on high-priority targets.

The biggest weakness of the Ersatz Yorck, like many ships of its era, is its poor anti-aircraft defense. Commanders will have to rely on just a few slow-firing 88mm cannons, which offer little protection against aerial threats.

He 219 A-7 (Rank VI)

Historical note

The design of the He 219 twin-engine night fighter was developed by Heinkel engineers in 1941. Despite the lack of interest from the Ministry of Aviation, company founder Ernst Heinkel funded the prototype's construction himself. Pre-production orders were finally received in late 1942.

He 219 aircraft were produced until the war's end. As the Luftwaffe's first purpose-built night fighters, the He 219 A-7 was its most advanced variant, featuring stronger engines, enhanced armament, and improved cockpit armor.

SWOT Analysis

  • Strengths: Six guns, high durability, good speed, radar.
  • Weaknesses: Average maneuverability, no external armament.
  • Opportunities: Intercepting bombers and strike aircraft, high-altitude attacks.
  • Threats: High-speed fighter aircraft.

In battle

Equipped with radar and powered by twin engines, the He 219 A-7 delivers impressive performance. Its armament consists of six reliable autocannons: two 30mm MK 103s and two 20mm MG 151s positioned behind the cockpit, supplemented by two 30mm MK 108s in the wings. Together, these guns unleash over 15.5 kg of shells per second, devastating enemy aircraft.

Despite its size, the He 219 A-7 climbs well and dives at high speed. It Though it lacks the horizontal speed of single-engine fighters, it effectively intercepts bombers and strike aircraft. Furthermore, its dive attacks can threaten fighters, provided it has attained sufficient altitude.

True to its night fighter role, the He 219 A-7 is equipped with radar, enabling early detection of aircraft beyond visual range.

The He 219 A-7 is highly durable, with a bulletproof cockpit and protected fuel tanks (except for a couple of small tanks at the rear of the nacelles) located in the fuselage.
