[Coming Soon] Strv 121 Platoon: “Leopard” in the snow

A new common Swedish Rank X platoon will be led by an export Leopard 2A4!

Strv 121 Platoon (Rank X)

Historical note

In the early 1990s, Sweden faced the problem of modernizing its armored vehicles. The Strv 103 and Strv 104 (modified Centurion) tanks in service were determined to be unsuitable for further improvements.

The foreign-made MBTs were chosen. A tender was organized among the tanks of European and US countries. The German Leopard 2 was successful and given the tender.

The first batch of tanks received under the Lendliz contract were delivered in 1994. The Leopard 2A4 was designated Strv 121 in the Swedish Army. These vehicles were in service until the early 2000s, when they were replaced by Leopard 2A5 tanks (Strv 122 under the Swedish designation system).

Strv 121

The Swedish Leopard 2A4 is almost identical to its German counterpart: an excellent MBT with superb mobility, high firepower and advanced turret protection. How does the Leopard fare in Sweden's harsh climate?

The Strv 121 is armed with the very popular, accurate and quite fast-firing Rheinmetall 120 mm cannon. The commander can choose between three types of projectiles - HE for lightly armored targets and two types of APFSDS that can easily deal with the armor of almost any opponent at any firing distance.

The tank received a powerful engine and extremely good dynamic characteristics - high speed, as well as excellent power density for fast acceleration and rapid maneuvers. The Strv 121 is ideal for aggressive, assertive combat, fast point capture and long-distance movement on the map.

The hull of the tank is weakly protected and can hardly withstand hits from small caliber automatic guns. The commander is advised to use the landscape folds and low scrapes for defense. But the turret, especially in the front projection, is well protected. It uses a complex combined armor package with special fillers. The turret in the area of the cannon mantlet is reliably protected against both kinetic and HEAT shells.

However, as good a tank as the Strv 121 is, it wouldn't be successful without a support team. There it is!

Strf 9040C

Extremely successful Swedish armored combat vehicle platform in this modification received additional combined arms modules and fast-firing 40 mm autocannon with APFSDS shells. The Strf 9040C is not as agile as other vehicles of this family, but is much better protected against HEAT shells and ATGMs.

Strf 9040 BILL

The Strf 9040 is a mobile experimental vehicle with a 40mm cannon and Rbs 56 ATGMs that can take on any enemy. The BILL will excel as an ambush vehicle and at long range.

The Finnish SPAAG on the Leopard 2 chassis with a pair of 35mm Oerlikon autocannons will be a good choice for team defense against air threats and as a support vehicle for allied tanks.
