[Coming Soon] Light cruiser Sendai: “long lances”

The fast Japanese light cruiser with 140mm guns and powerful torpedoes.

Historical Note

Japanese light cruisers of Sendai type were a further development of Kuma type ships. In the early 1920s, eight ships of this type were planned, but the Washington Naval Agreement forced Japan to reduce the number of ships to three. Sendai, the lead ship of the series, was laid down in 1922 and entered service in 1924.

The cruiser participated in the Second Sino-Japan War, and during World War II escorted convoys and took part in battles in the Solomon Islands. In November 1943, Sendai was severely damaged in a battle with American cruisers and sank.

IJN Sendai (Rank II)

The IJN Sendai, although it is a light cruiser, looks more like a destroyer “at maximum performance”. The main caliber of the ship is 7 140-mm guns in single-barrel turrets. These turrets are placed in such a way that six of the seven guns can simultaneously fire on a single target.

The IJN Sendai's cannons do moderate damage, and she has no auxiliary caliber. However, the cruiser is quite competitive at its rank due to its good rate of fire.

What really makes the IJN Sendai really special are its torpedoes! The famous Japanese “long lances” – 610mm Type 93 oxygen torpedoes have the highest damage rate in the game and excellent launch rate from the torpedo tubes. Torpedoes are effective against all targets, including the most heavily defended battleships.

Dynamics is another trait that IJN Sendai shares with destroyers. The ship is light, fast in the turn, and has the energy to fight vigorously in constant motion. Unlike destroyers, however, the IJN Sendai is lightly armored, so it can operate not only from behind cover, but also in a group of allied ships, and can survive multiple salvos.

The key to a successful game on the IJN Sendai is constant movement and proper use of torpedoes. Try to get closer to the enemy under the cover of rocks and islands, or fight with the support of stronger allies. The shorter the distance, the harder it will be for your enemies to dodge IJN Sendai's ultimate torpedoes!
