Challenger 2 TES (Rank XIII)

Brief Overview

  • Strengths: powerful 120mm L30A1 cannon, add-on explosive reactive armor blocks, nearly complete protection of the sides against non-tandem cumulative munitions.
  • Weaknesses: average mobility, fairly large silhouette.
  • Role in battle: effective at medium and long ranges, requires cautious tactics, ideal for defensive positions and ambushes – especially in the new camouflage.

In battle

The British Challenger 2 TES main battle tank is an upgraded version of the UK's main battle tank with enhanced protection.

The main improvement is the installation of ERA. Combined with spaced armor and composite screens, they provide almost complete protection of the sides from non-tandem cumulative rounds. However, the tank retains a weakened area around the gun mantlet. Therefore, during reloading in duels, it is worth slightly turning the turret away from the enemy.

The tank is armed with a powerful L30A1 gun. The best ammo for it is the L27A1 APFSDS, which has excellent armor penetration and flat trajectory. In addition, it is useful to have several other types of shell in the ammo load: HESH for light vehicles or smoke L34 shells.

In combat, the Challenger 2 TES is very effective at medium and long ranges. It requires careful tactics due to its limited mobility and vulnerable areas in the frontal projection.

Historical Note

Since 2002, Challenger 2 MBTs equipped with Dorchester Level 2 composite armor have been participating in ground operations in Iraq. Shortly thereafter, these vehicles received extra protection with composite armor panels on the turret sides and anti-cumulative grilles on the hull and turret.

In 2008, the armor was upgraded again. This time, the NERA packages were replaced with ERA produced by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Limited of Israel. This modification was designated TES (Theatre Entry Standard). It is one of the most advanced armor solutions available for the Challenger 2.

We wish you remain invisible to your enemies in battle and achieve glorious victories in War Thunder Mobile (WTM)!
