[Coming Soon] Yak-9UT: wings, stars, three guns!

Historical Note

The Yak-9U modification was the most radical in the Yak-9 series. The fighter received a new powerful engine and a more advanced aerodynamic shape. The use of new fuselage and wing materials gave it a significant increase in its weight.

Despite the reinforcement of armament with an additional large-caliber machine gun, the firepower of the airplane was insufficient. For this reason, the Yak-9UT (tank) modification was developed on the basis of the Yak-9U with a full cannon armament. The new 23 mm NS-23 motor-gun could be replaced by 37 and 45 mm caliber guns.

This modification was mass-produced from January to May 1945. More than 280 Yak-9UT fighters were produced.

The Yak-3P with interchangeable armament appeared in the game at the end of last year. The upcoming War Thunder Mobile seasonal update will feature another late Yakovlev fighter with more powerful customizable armament! The magnificent Yak-9UT is a fighter with excellent speed and maneuverability. Its top gun can be selected depending on your play style and game mission.

SWOT Analysis

• Strengths: excellent flight and tactical characteristics, 2x20-mm cannons, a choice of motor-cannon caliber: 23, 37 or 45 mm.
• Weaknesses: no suspended missile and bomb armament.
• Opportunities: universal fighter for battles with any enemy, 37- and 45-mm motor cannons make it possible to destroy tanks.
• Threats: “top” fighters.

In battle

The first thing that is noticed about the Yak-9UT is its high engine power. Excellent acceleration and rate of climb and good top speed make the aircraft suitable for combat at high altitudes and near the ground. At all altitudes and over the entire speed range, the Yak-9UT controls perfectly. The rudders are responsive and maneuvers are precise. It is a versatile fighter, which will be able to show itself both in a turning battle and in passing attacks.

One of the main “features” of the Yak-9UT will be its forward-firing weapons. Two 20-mm B-20S cannons are mounted at the front of the fuselage.

Another cannon is located in the propeller spinner, and its choice depends on the pilot:

• The high-speed 23 mm cannon with its greater ammunition supply will be well suited for dogfights with other fighters.
• 37mm cannon shells will be an excellent choice against bombers and light armored vehicles.
• The 45mm cannon will be the right choice for those who decide to hunt tanks.

All three cannons are located at the front of the fuselage, so it's easy and enjoyable to aim and hit with them.

The Yak-9UT is a rare case of a perfectly balanced fighter without any glaring disadvantages, but with a lot of unambiguous advantages. Take the Yak-9UT into battles of any difficulty, it won't let you down!

With this premium warplane you’ll be able to enjoy faster Silver Lion and Research Point gains, and earn some Golden Eagles in your battles.

If you’re lucky enough to unlock both the premium and the standard variants, you will be able to use them both in the same battle!
