[Coming soon] Meteor F Mk 4 G.41F: British Jet Breakthrough

The Big and Medium Trophies contain a British fighter with high speed and powerful bombs.

Historical Note

From 1946, the Gloster Meteor F Mk 3 was succeeded by the F Mk 4 variant. Its primary distinction was a new powerplant delivering increased thrust, alongside structural reinforcements, refined control surfaces, and the introduction of a pressurized cockpit.

The Gloster Meteor F Mk 4 became the first variant to enter service with foreign nations. In May 1947, Argentina became the first export customer, followed by Denmark, Egypt, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Produced in large numbers, the F Mk 4 had completely replaced the F Mk 3 in Royal Air Force frontline units by 1948.

Brief Analysis

  • Strengths: High speed, powerful forward-firing armament, and two 1,000 lb bombs.
  • Weaknesses: Relatively low roll rate.
  • Role in battle: A well-balanced jet fighter with excellent flight performance and strong armament.

In battle

The upcoming War Thunder Mobile update brings British aviation enthusiasts the Meteor F Mk 4 G.41F – an improved variant of Great Britain's first production jet fighter. The most significant enhancement is a notable increase in top speed, elevating the Meteor into a highly effective strike fighter at its rank, capable of handling virtually any combat scenario.

The most immediately striking feature of the new F Mk 4 is its enlarged engine nacelles, housing new Derwent 5 engines that deliver one and a half times the thrust of the Derwent 1s found on the familiar Meteor F Mk 3. The result is a faster aircraft with noticeably improved acceleration and climb rate – confident in duels against any opponent, whether chasing down an enemy or breaking away from a pursuer.

Best of all, in addressing its speed deficit, the F Mk 4 retains all the key advantages of its predecessor: powerful forward-firing armament of four 20 mm cannons, excellent horizontal turning capability, and the option to carry two 1,000 lb bombs for ground attack missions.

The Meteor's one notable weakness remains its somewhat sluggish roll rate – particularly at high speeds, a consequence of its long, large-area wing.

The Meteor F Mk 4 G.41F stands among the finest Rank IX jet fighters – don't miss its arrival!
