[Event] Operation Grenade

Event Terms

Get a memorable insignia and valuable rewards for successfully completing a HQ mission!

Tasks:

• Destroy 20 units of any enemy vehicle and get 5 sets of valuable boosters.

• Destroy 45 units of any enemy vehicle using any Germany vehicle and receive a unique name decoration.

Event duration: February 28, 10:00 (GMT) — March 2, 10:00 (GMT).

Historical note

"Grenade" was the name given to the operation to get the U.S. 9th Army across the Ruhr River between Ruhrmond and Düren. In late February of 1945, the Allies were ready to invade Germany from the West. Despite the fact that American commanders had anticipated the enemy's actions, German forces were able to open the floodgates of the dams and fortified themselves on their own side of the river.

For two weeks while the area was flooded, the command would not allow German troops to withdraw beyond the Rhine, arguing it would only delay the inevitable battle.

On February 23, the U.S. 9th Army, through skillful planning, was able to cross the river and conduct several successful operations with minimal casualties.
