[Coming Soon] Her Majesty's sapper!

A British engineering tank and its crew!

Platoon Centurion Mk.5 AVRE (Rank VII)

Historical Note

To replace the Churchill-based engineering tank, the development of a new vehicle began in the 1960s. The Centurion Mk.5 tank was chosen as the platform for this project. The Centurion AVRE (from Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) was fitted with a dozer blade and hitch. The main weapon of this vehicle was a short-barreled L9 caliber 165 mm gun with a low recoil. It was used to destroy fortifications, pillboxes and other hardpoints.

The Centurion AVRE became the main engineering vehicle of the British Army and participated in several conflicts, including the Gulf War. In the 1980s, the vehicle was upgraded with additional armor, including ROMOR ERAs.

Centurion Mk.5 AVRE

A very interesting feature of the Centurion AVRE engineering tank will be its defense. First of all, the Centurion AVRE received reinforced hull armor compared to other tanks of this family.

The frontal hull and turret of the tank are protected by ERA ROMOR blocks, which give a big increase in protection against HEAT and missiles, and also slightly improve the overall protection against APDS and APFSDS shells. The steel bulldozer blade at the front of the hull can also in some cases save the tank from HEAT hits, acting as a kind of spaced armor.

Another feature of the Centurion AVRE tank is a completely unusual gun. It is a short, low-recoil 165 mm gun that fires huge HESH shells at a steep trajectory.

The weight of the explosives in each shell exceeds 20 kilograms in TNT equivalent! Any penetration of the enemies' tank armor by such a shell is usually fatal for the opponent. But even without armor penetration, the shock wave breaks modules and often injures crews.

This bucket will be a nightmare for the enemy! In the meantime, we'll get to know the other vehicles in the platoon!

Caernarvon

The Caernarvon experimental tank is far from being the sharpest tank. However, it has a penetrating and rapid-firing gun and gives a good punch. A great choice for urban battles and point defense!

Swingfire

The British Swingfire is armed in the game only with ATGM launchers. The anti-tank missiles have very good penetration rates, but they require a specific distance to reach their trajectory, so the Swingfire cannot be used in close combat.

Falcon

The fast and compact Falcon SPAAG with a pair of 30mm cannons will be useful not only as a defense against aircraft, but also as an excellent scout – its armor-piercing belts can penetrate the sides of almost all tanks!

*Platoon vehicle lineup, vehicle specifications and camouflages are still under development and may differ from those in this article.

The Centurion Mk.5 AVRE (Rank VII) Platoon will be available in the Medium Trophy of the Tank Campaign with the start of the new Season.
