Historical Note

The Maestrale class is a series of frigates built for the Italian Navy by Fincantieri. The lead ship was commissioned in early 1982, with the remaining eight vessels joining the fleet over the following three years.

Designed primarily for anti-submarine warfare, the class proved highly adaptable – capable of handling anti-air and anti-ship defense tasks thanks to its flexible design. Frigates of this class saw active service in international missions under NATO and UN flags across several decades.

Brief Overview

• Strengths: Six TESEO-Otomat anti-ship missiles per salvo, four Albatross surface-to-air missiles, a 127 mm Oto Melara gun, two triple torpedo tubes, and an anti-missile defense system.
• Weaknesses: Relatively long reload time for the missile launchers; low rate of fire for the anti-missile defense system.
• Role in battle: A versatile missile frigate.

In Battle

The Maestrale brings Italy's first missile ship to War Thunder Mobile – and with it, a unique and versatile arsenal.

The primary armament is the new TESEO-Otomat anti-ship missile, carrying a 210 kg warhead and posing a serious threat to any surface opponent. Each salvo delivers six of these missiles – but that is only the beginning.

Alongside them, the Maestrale launches four Albatros surface-to-air missiles, which are equally capable of engaging surface targets. These too make their first appearance in War Thunder Mobile.

The armament is rounded out by a 127 mm Oto Melara automatic cannon and two triple torpedo tubes with 324 mm torpedoes for close-quarters engagements. For missile defense, the Maestrale is equipped with an artillery-based anti-missile system – also appearing in the game for the first time.

Survivability is average for a ship of this class. The Maestrale carries no armor, and under concentrated fire it will not hold out for long. Given the relatively long reload time of the anti-ship missiles, operating near cover – rocks, icebergs, and islands – is strongly advisable.

Maintain distance, prioritize the most dangerous targets in range, and you will deliver maximum value to your team. Bear in mind the anti-missile system's lengthy reload as well – another reason to fight from cover whenever possible.

The Maestrale is a modern, versatile frigate for the most skilled naval commanders in War Thunder Mobile. A powerful missile salvo, capable secondary armament, and strong tactical flexibility make it a formidable threat to any opponent – and a decisive asset for the allied team.

Premium version of the Maestrale (Rank VII)

In the Ship Campaign, only one ship can be taken into battle. Because of this, the Premium version of any ship is not a separate unit, but it completely replaces the standard “gray” version. After obtaining the premium version, the blueprints for the standard version of the ship will disappear from the store and trophies, and the ship itself will become unavailable in trophies and jackpots.

Differences between the Premium and Standard versions:

• The ability to get gold after a battle, according to the daily limit;
• Unique premium camouflage;
• Fully unlocked upgrades in the Arsenal;
• The ship gets the maximum crew level immediately.
