B-57A (Rank IX)

Historical Note

The B-57A is an American jet bomber based on the British Canberra. Its first flight took place in 1953, making it one of the first jet bombers adopted by the US Air Force. These aircraft saw active service in reconnaissance and bombing roles, including during the Vietnam War.

Brief Overview

• Strengths: High top speed of up to 950 km/h, excellent climb rate, good maneuverability for a bomber, and a powerful bomb load of up to six 1,000 lb bombs.

Il-28 (Rank IX)

The aircraft saw service in various conflicts and was later adapted for civil aviation use, including mail delivery.

• Strengths: Powerful forward and defensive armament – two 23 mm cannons in the nose and two in the rear turret – alongside a wide selection of bomb loads including the FAB-3000, and good speed.
• Weaknesses: Insufficient maneuverability.

The Il-28 arrives in the Soviet research tree as a capable and well-rounded bomber. Its pilots can effectively strike ground targets from a dive using the powerful bomb armament and, when threatened, defend against attacking fighters with the rear turret.

Canberra B.Mk.2 (Rank IX)

Historical Note

The Canberra B.Mk.2 is a British jet bomber developed by English Electric. Its maiden flight took place in 1949, and the type went on to form the backbone of British bomber aviation throughout the 1950s. The Canberra's successful design served as the direct basis for the American B-57, and the aircraft was exported to numerous countries worldwide.

Ar 234 C-3 (Rank IX)

Historical Note

The Ar 234 C-3 is a German jet bomber developed by Arado in the closing stages of World War II and one of the first jet-powered bombers to enter operational service. The C-3 variant was distinguished by four BMW 003 engines mounted in individual nacelles and enhanced defensive armament against enemy fighters.

Brief Overview

• Strengths: High speed and strong power-to-weight ratio courtesy of four engines; powerful forward armament consisting of two 20 mm MG 151/20 cannons; and a capable bomb load.
• Weaknesses: Mediocre maneuverability.
• Role in battle: A fast strike bomber suited to breaking through air defenses and striking bases and pillboxes – with enough forward armament to hold its own in aerial combat.
