[Coming Soon] JDS Murasame: Japan's Rocket Arsenal

The Big and Medium trophies contain a Japanese destroyer with a devastating salvo of anti-ship missiles, ASROC, and advanced AA defenses.

Historical Note

The destroyer JS Murasame became the lead ship of a new generation of Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force vessels, built under the 1991 program. The ship was laid down in August 1993, launched in August 1994, and commissioned in March 1996.

During her service, Murasame actively participated in international exercises, including RIMPAC in 1998, 2000, and 2003, as well as the International Fleet Review for the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar in 2005. In 2004, the ship provided support for the Japanese reconstruction mission in Iraq. In 2008, she was deployed to the Indian Ocean to participate in Operation Enduring Freedom. Since 2010, Murasame has conducted counter-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden. Currently, the ship is part of the 1st Escort Flotilla of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, based in Yokosuka.

JDS Murasame (Rank VII)

Brief Analysis

  • Strengths: 6 anti-ship missiles per salvo, fast-firing AA missiles, guided anti-submarine missiles, an autocannon, and torpedoes.
  • Weaknesses: Anti-ship missile reload time is slightly longer than on other missile ships.
  • Role in battle: A modern missile ship with a powerful salvo and diverse armament.

In battle

The new JDS Murasame Japanese missile boat at rank VII is more than just a destroyer – it is a veritable arsenal hidden behind the sleek lines of its hull. Vertical launch systems, powerful anti-ship missiles, modern ASROC, and a reliable close-in defense system – this ship is capable of handling almost any task on the battlefield.

JDS Murasame's key advantage is its missile armament. The main strike force consists of Type 90 (SSM-1B) anti-ship missiles, the Japanese version of the famous Harpoon, which have slightly higher damage compared to American missiles. Best of all: you get a full salvo of six missiles at once, instead of the standard four! This is a serious argument in any naval duel. Alongside the Type 90, the salvo also includes fast RIM-162 ESSM anti-aircraft missiles, launched from vertical cells. For engaging submarines, the ship carries RUM-139 ASROC missiles – also vertically launched, with four missiles per salvo.

Completing the arsenal are two triple torpedo tubes (one per side) with Mk 46 torpedoes and a 76 mm OTO Melara automatic gun. For defense against enemy missiles, the ship is equipped with two CIWS mounts with good coverage angles.

However, this devastating salvo of six anti-ship missiles comes with a downside: a relatively long reload time. Captains of the JDS Murasame should keep this in mind and plan to hide the ship between salvoes behind rocks, islands, icebergs, or smokescreens.

In summary, the JDS Murasame is a modern multi-role missile destroyer, capable of operating effectively in various combat scenarios. Its main strength is its missile arsenal with its heavy salvoes and separate vertical launch systems, and its main weakness is its long reload time, which demands a calculated approach. In skilled hands, this ship becomes a true nightmare for the enemy, capable of single-handedly controlling large areas of the map.

Premium version of the JDS Murasame (Rank VII)

In the Ship Campaign, only one ship can be taken into battle. Because of this, the Premium version of any ship is not a separate unit, but it completely replaces the standard “gray” version. After obtaining the premium version, the blueprints for the standard version of the ship will disappear from the store and trophies, and the ship itself will become unavailable in trophies and jackpots.

Differences between the Premium and Standard versions:

  • The ability to get gold after a battle, according to the daily limit;
  • Unique premium camouflage;
  • Fully unlocked upgrades in the Arsenal;
  • The ship gets the maximum crew level immediately.
