The Big and Medium trophies contain a British MBT that combines a British turret with a German Leopard 2 chassis.
The Vickers Mk.7 tank was developed by the British company Vickers in the late 1980s as an evolution of the unsuccessful Mk.4 Valiant project. Its designers combined proven components by mounting the Mk.4 turret onto the chassis of the German Leopard 2. This approach aimed to deliver strong combat performance while reducing development time and costs. The resulting hybrid vehicle was intended both as a potential replacement for the Challenger 1 in the British Army and for export markets. However, the British Armed Forces showed no interest, prompting Vickers to focus on promoting the tank abroad.
A key factor that undermined the tank’s export prospects was West Germany’s late-1980s ban on arms supplies to unstable regions. Because the Mk.7 used a German chassis, it fell under this restriction, costing it its most promising customer – the United Arab Emirates. Combined with high production costs and reliance on external political decisions, the project was ultimately cancelled. Only one prototype was built.
The Vickers Mk.7 is an unconventional British main battle tank. Built on the German Leopard 2 chassis, it overcomes the mobility limitations typical of high-rank British tanks while retaining the strong firepower expected at this tier.
Commanders of British vehicles who have grown accustomed to their tanks’ underwhelming mobility – there’s good news. The Vickers Mk.7, built on a Leopard 2 chassis, delivers top speed and mobility comparable to fast German tanks. This high mobility unlocks greater tactical freedom, from aggressive point captures to active defense.
The Vickers Mk.7 is equipped with a 120 mm cannon that fires both the well-known British HESH (high-explosive squash head) shells, effective against lightly and moderately armored vehicles, and two types of APFSDS (armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot) rounds.
The tank’s survivability is typical of Western MBTs: strong frontal turret armor, but a highly vulnerable hull and sides. Commanders should prioritize the Vickers Mk.7’s mobility rather than relying on its armor.
The Vickers Mk.7 performs best at medium to long range. Use hull-down tactics by positioning behind hills to conceal the hull and expose only the turret. In urban combat, stay cautious—engage from cover, briefly expose yourself to fire, then pull back immediately. On open maps, use your speed to secure key positions early, but remember that the turret’s frontal armor may not always protect you.
The Premium variant is an extra tank for your hangar! The premium tank maintains the same performance as the standard variant, though it comes in a unique camouflage. With this premium tank you’ll be able to enjoy faster Silver Lion and Research Point gains, and earn some Golden Eagles in your battles.
If you’re lucky enough to unlock both the premium and the standard variants, you will be able to use them both in the same battle!
