[Coming soon] Vampire F.B.5: Elegant Hunter

The Big and Medium Trophies contain a British jet duellist with excellent maneuverability and powerful armament.

Historical Note

The De Havilland Vampire jet fighter was developed in the early 1940s. Its distinctive twin-boom fuselage allowed engineers to shorten the exhaust pipe, reducing power loss and enabling an efficient single-engine design at the dawn of the jet age. The prototype first flew in September 1943, just six months after the Gloster Meteor. Serial production began in May 1944, but the aircraft did not enter service until 1946.

Introduced in 1948, the FB.5 became the most widely produced version of the Vampire, with over 1,000 units built. It differed from earlier variants with reinforced engine armor, clipped wingtips, and additional hardpoints for bombs and rockets, enabling a fighter-bomber role. The Vampire FB.5 saw extensive service throughout the 1950s, operated by numerous air forces, and participated in several conflicts.

Brief Analysis

  • Strengths: excellent maneuverability, powerful forward-firing armament, and versatile suspended ordnance.
  • Weaknesses: relatively low top speed.
  • Role in battle: with superior maneuverability and strong armament, the “Vampire” stands out as one of the best jet fighters in the game – an elegant duellist in air combat and a formidable attacker when engaging ground targets.

In battle

The new British jet fighter-bomber stands out not only for its distinctive twin-boom design but also for its exceptional combat performance. These qualities make it a standout addition and a clear favourite among early jet aviation enthusiasts in War Thunder Mobile. Introducing the De Havilland Vampire – one of the finest aircraft of its era.

The twin-boom fuselage and short wings give the Vampire F.B.5 excellent maneuverability, which is rare for a jet aircraft. While many of its contemporaries surpass the “Vampire” in top speed, only a few jets in the game can match its roll and turn rate.

The British “Vampire” is a compact aircraft with a substantial arsenal. It mounts four 20 mm Hispano cannons in the nose, a classic feature of Western aviation. Its burst is dense and powerful, effective at any range. Air combat is only part of its role.

The Vampire also carries a significant payload for ground attack missions, including 500 lb and 1,000 lb bombs and RP-3 unguided rockets. This ordnance can be configured before takeoff in several combinations to suit your playstyle, whether focused on dogfighting or ground strikes.

The Vampire F.B.5 is a rare jet capable of both boom-and-zoom tactics and effective maneuvering combat. Its excellent handling allows you to win air battles and accurately deploy suspended ordnance against ground targets. This aircraft is truly iconic, both within the British tech tree and across the early jet era. Don’t miss this “fang-tastic” newcomer in the next game update.
