Historical Note

In the 1990s, as the Type 42 destroyers became outdated and new threats, particularly large-scale missile attacks emerged, the UK began developing a new class of missile destroyers: the Type 45. Originally part of the international Horizon program, the project became a national initiative after the UK withdrew. The main focus was on the air defense system: these destroyers were equipped with SAMPSON radar (with AESA) and PAAMS (Sea Viper) air defense missile systems. The lead ship, HMS Daring, entered service in 2009, becoming the most technologically advanced warship in the Royal Navy.

All six Type 45 destroyers are currently in service, providing air defense for aircraft carrier groups and participating in international operations. Their modernization began in the 2020s, with the installation of Sea Ceptor missiles and the latest electronic warfare systems.

The futuristic, high-tech Type 45 destroyer will join the game as the UK’s latest missile ship with the release of the upcoming seasonal update!

The Type 45, the Royal Navy's most modern missile destroyer, will feature powerful guided missile armament. This includes Harpoon anti-ship missiles, familiar to many War Thunder Mobile commanders, and the new Aster 30 missiles in vertical launchers. Additionally, the destroyer is armed with a bow-mounted 114mm automatic gun and rapid-fire 30mm AA guns. The Type 45 does not carry torpedoes, as it was designed with a different mission focus in mind.

The Type 45 is a fast yet relatively large ship, requiring special attention when seeking cover due to its long hull.

Should a locked-on enemy fail to defend itself it will face powerful Harpoon strikes, quickly followed by a barrage of swift Aster 30 missiles. At close range, the Type 45 will unleash its rapid-fire 114 mm gun, capable of inflicting fatal damage to lightly armored missile ships with just a few salvos.
