Historical note

Type 42 destroyers entered service with the Royal Navy in the 1970s as modern anti-aircraft (AA) vessels. They were developed as a cost-effective alternative to the larger Type 82 missile destroyers, which had been canceled.

The Type 42 destroyers became the primary ships of their class in the Royal Navy, with 14 built by 1985. Two of these destroyers were later transferred to the Argentine Navy and upgraded with improved weaponry.

ARA Type 42 (Rank VI)

The Argentine Type 42 missile destroyer will join the US tech tree at Rank VI in the next War Thunder Mobile (WTM) update. This warship is equipped with two types of guided missiles, an automatic cannon, and an electronic countermeasures (ECM) system.

The Type 42 destroyers' missile armament consists of a twin Sea Dart launcher. While these missiles deal moderate damage, their rapid reload allows for quick salvos, making it easier to strike unprotected enemies before they deploy countermeasures. The Argentinean variant has been upgraded with the familiar and reliable MM38 Exocet anti-ship missile launcher.

The Type 42 features a forward-mounted 114mm Mark 8 autocannon. While its damage output isn't exceptional, this is offset by its high rate of fire. Commanders should choose their targets carefully, as it's ineffective against large ships but excels against lightly armored vessels.

As the Type 42 will primarily engage other missile ships, a key challenge for commanders is defense against missile attacks. Fortunately, the destroyer is equipped with an effective missile interception system capable of 'suppressing' incoming enemy missiles.
