Historical Note

In 1952, a strike modification of the F4U Corsair deck fighter was developed at the request of the U.S. Marine Corps. It was later labeled AU-1. The aircraft featured a new engine adapted for low-altitude operations, a reinforced airframe and additional mounting points to carry a large payload mass, as well as improved armor.

The AU-1 modification was actively used in combat missions during the Korean War. Besides the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy, the aircraft were also exported to France.

SWOT Analysis

Strengths: Amazing arsenal of suspended armament both in number and variety, 4x20-mm cannons, good performance.
Weaknesses: Difficult to control with high payload weight.
Opportunities: One of the best heavy fighters in the game, which can perform assault missions and is capable of putting on a good show in offense in air battles.

In battle

The new AU-1 is a good example of the American piston-powered deck aircraft with an increased payload. This compact strike aircraft based on the famous “Corsair” is characterized by great versatility. It carries a very impressive arsenal and will not be afraid of an air duel with even the best fighters!

According to the American concept of the Short Range Fire Support Aircraft is of course a powerful armament. The AU-1 is armed by four 20-mm main guns. Numerous suspension points on the wing and fuselage allow the pilot to place a variety of weapons: small HVAR missiles, huge anti-tank Tiny Tim missiles, bombs from 250 to 2000 pounds. During a single flight, the AU-1 can destroy a whole convoy of AI vehicles, destroy several DOTs or heavily damage an enemy base.

The greater the payload weight, the slower the AU-1 flies and the more difficult it is to control. But once the rockets are fired and the bombs are dropped, we have a pretty good fighter in our hands! Its speed is almost enough to catch up with a light bomber or attack aircraft. The maneuverability of the plane allows you to count on a couple of loops in a turn battle even against some fighters. After dropping bombs, the AU-1's 4 20mm cannons can actively attack light vehicles on the ground or engage other aircraft at low altitude.

The AU-1 is a great example of the U.S. Marine Corps strike aircraft family. It is up to its future pilots to decide whether it will be a heavy fighter to protect their ground forces or a strike aircraft for attack missions!

To unlock the standard aircraft, you need to collect 1,000 blueprints.

Here’s how you can get them:

In Medium Trophy: Chance to receive 700 aircraft blueprints in the jackpot, or 10 to 100 per attempt. Each attempt also grants a small chance to unlock the aircraft instantly.
In Big Trophy: Chance to receive 700 aircraft blueprints, or 80 to 200 blueprints per attempt.
Via the in-game store: Getting the Blueprints Folder for Silver Lions grants a chance to receive some blueprints for the standard variant even after the season ends.
