Platoon Object 122MT “MC” (Rank VII)

In 1967, China embarked on the ambitious development of a modern tank to replace the outdated Type 59, known as Object 122. The first prototype, Object 122TH, was equipped with a hydropneumatic suspension and hydraulic transmission. However, testing revealed these components to be complex and unreliable. By 1971, a simplified version with a manual transmission and torsion bar suspension, called Object 122MT, was developed. This model was armed with a 120mm smoothbore cannon and featured four ATGM launchers mounted on the sides of the turret. Despite these advancements, the tank did not progress beyond range testing, and the only surviving example is displayed at the NORINCO factory in Inner Mongolia.

The Object 122MT (modification "MC") will spearhead a new platoon of Chinese armored vehicles at Rank VII. This formidable tank boasts impressive firepower, exceptional mobility, and versatile capabilities. Its core is a powerful Chinese-made 120mm gun, offering commanders a choice between two types of APFSDS, HE, and HEATFS shells.

The cannon's excellent accuracy makes it effective at various ranges. A standout feature of the Object 122MT "MC" is its four ATGM launchers, which prove particularly valuable in long-range engagements.

The Object 122MT "MC" features a high top speed and impressive power-to-weight ratio, making it fast, agile, and well-suited for active combat. While its defenses are average and vulnerable to shaped charge weapons like ATGMs, its domed turret design increases the likelihood of APCBC shell ricochets.

Alongside the Object 122MT "MC" in the platoon are other equally intriguing vehicles, each worth highlighting in more detail.

PLZ83-130

The PLZ83-130 tank destroyer is equipped with an impressive 130mm cannon, capable of firing highly effective APCBC and HE-VT shells. However, commanders must be strategic in positioning, as its large size and modest defenses make it an attractive target for enemy tanks.

ZTZ59A

The ZTZ59A is a modernized Chinese Type 59 medium tank. It stands out as one of the top representatives of its class at Rank VII, thanks to its balanced combination of firepower, defense, and mobility, making it highly versatile in combat.

WZ305

This SPAAG vehicle is based on the Soviet ZSU-57-2 but features a different chassis, utilizing the platform of the Chinese Type-69-II medium tank. It is also equipped with new shells fitted with proximity fuzes. Lightweight yet powerful, this vehicle excels in both tank support and anti-aircraft warfare.

Courbet (Rank III)

The battleship Courbet was the lead ship in a new series of French battleships built just before World War I. This veteran vessel saw action in both World Wars and even played a significant role during the Allied landings in Normandy, where she was grounded and repurposed as a breakwater and stationary air defense battery.

The Courbet stands out for the unique arrangement of her six 305mm gun turrets. While only five can be used in a broadside salvo, four of the turrets are positioned to fire directly ahead, allowing her to engage enemies without fully exposing her broadside.

Although the Courbet’s air defense is not the strongest – typical of early battleships – its auxiliary armament is exceptionally powerful. The ship boasts 22 138mm guns, which can fire simultaneously from 11 of them for a devastating broadside.
