[Coming Soon] Platoon ZTZ96A: Chinese Ironclad

The platoon of modern Chinese armored vehicles of Rank X will be led by the heavily armored ZTZ96A tank.

Historical note

In the early 2000s, the ZTZ96 main battle tanks modernization program was launched. The program was aimed at improving the operational life and combat effectiveness of the tank to the level of its foreign competitors. Thus, the tank received a new engine. The turret and the front of the hull were reinforced with FY-4 ERAs. The modernized ZTZ96A was presented to the public in 2006.

The ZTZ96A tanks are still in service with the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Several further modernizations were created on the basis of the tank.

The ZTZ96A common platoon will appear at rank X of Chinese armored vehicles in the upcoming seasonal update of War Thunder Mobile. The lead tank of the platoon is featured with improved armor and good AP shells – a versatile choice for the role of an attacking or defending tank at any moment of the battle!

The main difference of the upgraded ZTZ96A is the reinforced armor*. The FY-4 ERAs on the turret and front of the hull significantly increase the resistance of the tank to HEAT shells and ATGMs, and slightly increase the resistance to APDS and APFSDS.

There are no compromises in firepower – the main and most effective shell of the tank will be APFSDS with penetration of more than 400 mm. This is an excellent value, enough to confidently hit the silhouette of almost any enemy!

Increase in weight due to additional armor is partially compensated by a new engine. The specific power is not impressive, so the tank can't be called super-dynamic. Nevertheless, in maximum speed ZTZ96A doesn't really lose to its competitors – the speed of the tank is quite sufficient for offensive in a group. However, it is worth to keep in mind the low reverse speed, which will not allow you to quickly roll back behind cover after a shot.

So, the ZTZ96A will be an excellent choice for the whole range of MBT tasks. But special tasks can be assigned to other vehicles of the platoon!

The ZLT11 wheeled vehicles is armed with a 105mm cannon launcher. The vehicle has excellent dynamics. It also has a very good choice of ammo for any type of enemy – HEATFS, two APFSDS, SAPHE with a large charge of explosives, HE-VT, that can destroy aircraft, and even a tandem ATGM. A cunning sniper who will wait for his victims in the most unexpected places!

The ZBD04A infantry fighting vehicle is based on the adapted Russian “Bakhcha” combat module, which combines a 100mm cannon-launcher with HE shells and tandem ATGMs, a 30mm automatic cannon and a tank machine gun. A fast tank support vehicle or a gutsy scout? It's up to you!

PGZ09

The fast-moving PGZ09 SPAAG is a true classic for high-ranking platoons! Two 35mm autocannons with API-T/HEI-T shells will cover your team from aircraft, and the additional belts of 40 APDS rounds will quickly destroy any lightly armored ground vehicle!

The ZTZ96A (Rank X) will become accessible once you reach level 19** in the tank campaign. You have the option to instantly upgrade your campaign level using Golden Eagles to gain faster access to this platoon compared to other players, or you can progress through battles to level up.
