[Coming Soon] Marlborough battleship: The Indomitable Nobleman

The British battleship Marlborough, a hero of the legendary Battle of Jutland, will soon join the British fleet in the next seasonal update of War Thunder Mobile!

Historical note

The British battleship HMS Marlborough, part of the Iron Duke class, entered service with the Royal Navy in 1914, just before World War I. This class featured an improved secondary battery of twelve 152 mm 45-calibre casemate-mounted guns and stronger armor compared to the previous King George class. During the 1916 Battle of Jutland, HMS Marlborough fired more shells from her main guns than any other battleship in the Grand Fleet. Although severely damaged by a torpedo from the German cruiser Wiesbaden, she managed to return to port on her own and resumed service after repairs.

After the war, HMS Marlborough took part in the Russian Civil War, aiding in the evacuation of Russian nobles and civilians from Yalta. The battleship was later sold for scrap in 1932, but not before being used in testing, the results of which contributed to the design of future British capital ships.

In addition to its main guns, Marlborough is equipped with 152 mm cannons for taking out smaller ships at close range. It also features four 533 mm torpedo tubes—two forward and two aft—designed for short-range attacks.

Marlborough's armor is also impressive, with a thick main belt offering strong protection against armor-piercing shells during battles with other battleships at medium and long ranges, making it a truly formidable opponent.

Marlborough's main weaknesses are its low speed and relatively poor air defense, typical of early battleships. With only four 102mm guns, it remains vulnerable to air attacks. Ship commanders should stick close to allies for protection under their air defense cover.
