Historical Note

The AM-1 Mauler was designed as a carrier attack aircraft with as much payload weight as possible while maintaining high speed. Due to engine cooling and stability problems, development was delayed until World War II had ended.

The first production batch of the Mauler only entered service in 1948. The attacker retained the ability to suspend a large number and range of outboard weapons, but proved too difficult to pilot, land on deck and maintain. It was replaced by the AD-1 Skyraider only years later.

SWOT Analysis

Strengths: impressive payload, many modifications to fulfill any mission.
Weaknesses: medium speed, no defensive armament.
Opportunities: optimal against ground vehicles, bases and ships; can be effective in dogfight.
Threats: fighters using “boom-zoom” tactics.

The AM-1 Mauler can carry up to 6,000 pounds of regular and armor-piercing bombs (the latter for large ships) on suspension points under the wing and fuselage. You can choose between 12 medium HVAR missiles or a pair of Tiny Tim anti-ship unguided rockets.

Also available are special Mk 13 anti-ship non-contact mines or three aircraft torpedoes!

In addition to the impressive payload, the airplane is enjoyable in pvp. It lacks speed, so you can't escape from the fighter in horizontal flight. But complex wing mechanization provides quite good maneuverability for its class, especially when there is at least some speed reserve.

Four 20mm cannons with a decent amount of ammo allow the AM-1 to fend off a fighter or undercut an enemy attacker, which the Mauler will inevitably encounter at low altitudes in the center of the map.

The Premium variant of the ♠AM-1 Mauler♠︎ is an extra plane for your roster! The premium warplane maintains the same performance as the standard variant, though it comes in a unique camouflage. With this premium warplane you’ll be able to enjoy faster Silver Lion and Research Point gains, and earn some Golden Eagles in your battles.

If you’re lucky enough to unlock both the premium and the standard variants, you will be able to use them both in the same battle!

To unlock the standard AM-1 Mauler, you need to collect 1,000 blueprints.

Here’s how you can get blueprints:

In Medium Trophy: Chance to receive 700 aircraft blueprints in the jackpot, or 10 to 100 per attempt. Each attempt also grants a small chance to unlock the aircraft instantly.
In Big Trophy: Chance to receive 700 aircraft blueprints, or 80 to 200 blueprints per attempt.
Via the in-game store: Getting the Blueprints Folder for Silver Lions grants a chance to receive some blueprints for the standard variant even after the season ends.
