Navy 2.0: A New Era

Announcement for the new Ship Campaign – an article about the ''meta'', research tech tree, vehicles, trophies and blueprints.

Hello, commanders! The development of a new Ship Campaign in War Thunder Mobile is entering the final stages. In the next Major Seasonal Update on May 5th, 2025, you will see a completely redesigned fleet "meta" based on research tech trees.

Research Tech Tree

The research tech tree will replace campaign levels, allowing players to decide not only the sequence of upgrading each nation but also which ship branches within that nation to prioritize.

Now you don't need to accumulate experience to unlock 30+ campaign levels and buy at least one ship after reaching each new level. To get the long-awaited missile ship, for example, you only need to explore one branch of the desired nation!

Previously, to reach the Rank VI top tier, you had to complete 25-31 campaign levels. Now, you only need to research 6-7 ships. Taking into account the rebalancing of experience between ships in the branch, the speed of obtaining top-tier vehicles has increased by about 5 times.

How to research vehicles in branches:

In the research tech tree of your chosen nation, you'll select a branch and begin researching the first ship. You earn research points from battles, which are needed to unlock ships. Once you accumulate the required points, you can order the researched unit using Silver Lions. Then you can select the next unit to research, and use the one you have already researched in battle.

You may choose to upgrade branches evenly or focus on a specific one. You can also switch nations at any time without losing access to previously researched ships.

What nations will be available in the new meta?

Each of the nations currently available in the Ships Campaign will receive its own tab. If there are no ships from a nation available for research in the game and the player doesn't have any units from that nation outside of the branch, the tab won't be displayed.

For example, France is currently represented by two ships from special event rewards and three from offers. If a player has at least one French ship, the France tab will be displayed; if not, the tab will not be displayed.

Once a nation's researchable ships have been added, they will appear in the tab as a research tech tree.

If you have a higher-ranked ship in the tree, you can continue research vehicles further away from this unit. You don't have to research earlier vehicles in the sub-branch if you don't want to.

In the future, ship trees may develop not only in length but also in width: new sub-branches of vehicle classes will appear within the branches.

Ship blueprints

Branches aren't the only way to get new ships. In addition to researching branch units, you can collect ship blueprints and order ships from any nation.

Blueprints can be earned through various means:

  • from the Medium Trophy – these offer a chance to earn a small number of blueprints each time you open one, or a significant number of blueprints if you win the jackpot;
  • from the Big Trophy – these provide a greater number of blueprints per opening, or a significant number of blueprints if you win the jackpot;
  • from the In-game store – blueprints can be purchased for SL 6 times per day and any time for GE;
  • as rewards for some game events;
  • from offers and other ways.

Due to the addition of blueprints to the game, players will now be able to obtain only the highest-tier vehicles from seasonal trophies. Previously, trophies contained Rank II–V vehicles, but now they only contain the best Rank VI vehicles!

Another advantage of blueprint ships is that you don't need to research an entire vehicle branch to obtain them. You don't have to put off researching vehicles from your favorite nation just to get one unit. Just buy the blueprints for ships you like in the store or get them from seasonal trophies, and eventually, “quantity will turn into quality” and you'll have enough blueprints for your next ship in your inventory.

Seasonal trophies

The contents and principle of obtaining rewards from seasonal ship campaign trophies have changed and will now be almost identical to those of the aviation campaign.

We have listened to players' wishes, so the new meta trophies will feature:

  • no decorators in the jackpot;
  • top-tier vehicles of the highest rank.

More about Seasonal Trophy rewards:

To obtain the jackpot from the Medium Trophy of the Ship Campaign, you will need 50 attempts, and from the BigTrophy, you will need 14 attempts. You can only obtain one jackpot from each trophy.

The jackpot includes 700 blueprints for one of the ships of the season (non-premium). If you receive both main rewards before the guaranteed chance, you will receive 1,750 Golden Eagles as the jackpot.

In addition, with a small chance, you can get an entire ship of the season (non-premium) from the Big Trophy, and an entire premium ship of the season from the Big Trophy. The premium version replaces the basic version and excludes it from the list of trophy rewards.

Even after the Season ends, you'll still be able to obtain ship blueprints from trophies in following Seasons. You'll also be able to purchase them in small packs from the in-game shop for SL. This guarantees you'll get the ship you want through regular gameplay!

Extra blueprints are automatically converted into Golden Eagles. Once a blueprint ship has been built, its blueprints will disappear from all sources.

Premium ships

An important change awaits premium ships that can be purchased with Golden Eagles: their cost will increase, but now their captains will receive a certain amount of Golden Eagles as a reward after battle. Each premium ship has a daily limit on the amount of gold that can be earned.

The premium status of a vehicle is indicated by a “winged triangle” symbol on its icon background. These vehicles will earn their owners additional rewards, such as Golden Eagles, for participating in battles.

Important! Starting May 5th, 2025, the cost of premium ships that can be purchased with Golden Eagles will be increased! There are several reasons for this:

  • An additional reward after battle – “golden” vehicles immediately start earning income and paying for themselves with every battle.
  • Quick research points – Premium ships have a high research point multiplier for battles, which significantly speeds up the research of “branch” units.

To ensure smooth and even overall progression, the experience required to obtain each unit in the branch has been re-balanced. Premium ships accelerate the accumulation of research points and shorten the path to the top even more, so their value within the new “meta” has increased significantly. Add to this the guaranteed Golden Eagles after battles on such ships, and it becomes clear that their increased value is quite logical.

We kindly request that you understand this change and take it into account when planning your purchases. The price will change after the ship campaign moves to the new “meta”. Ships purchased before the change at the old price will start earning gold after the moving to the new “meta”.

Please note that there will be no discounts on ship campaign vehicles during the upcoming Golden Sale. We will monitor the formation of the new economy and the progress of players on the new “meta”. Early sales will muddy these statistics.

By the way, the option to upgrade branch vehicles to premium versions for Golden Eagles after research in the new “meta” will remain. Vehicles from blueprints can become premium in the following ways:

  • you will obtain the premium version of the ship from the Big Trophy of the season;
  • you will obtain the premium version of the ship from the Historical Trophy;
  • you will purchase the premium upgrade in a random Offer.

New vehicles in the fleet

Due to the move from campaign levels to national branches, we've decided to add a bunch of ships to the game at once to make the branches more balanced and interesting. Some of them are new, and some are sister-ships, which are real ships of the same class but with different names.

New ships

Sister-ships

Here is a list of new ships whose sister-ships are already in the game:

  • Skrytnyy
  • L-4
  • Pr.69
  • USS Salem
  • USS St. Louis
  • USS California
  • Konigsberg
  • Rheinland
  • Baden
  • Hindenburg
  • HMS Hercules
  • HMS Thunderer
  • HMS Ajax
  • HMS Iron Duke
  • IJN Mikuma
  • IJN Nagato

Important

The new “meta” is not just a rearrangement of vehicles in a more convenient order. Experience from the previous leveling system can't be used to evaluate the new ship campaign. This is a complete overhaul of the campaign economy, a change in the speed of leveling up to the top tiers, and an improvement in matchmaking. The research tech tree system allows players to get the desirable top-tier vehicles 5 times faster, play more comfortably, and independently decide whether to purchase a certain vehicle.

The new “meta” also implies a new experience and price formula, which is why the reward multipliers have also been re-balanced. As a result, rewards have been slightly reduced for ranks I-V and increased for rank VI.

The main goal of introducing the new “meta” is to give players more opportunities. We hope you will appreciate all the benefits and take advantage of the new freedom to play comfortably in your favorite mode.

What will happen to the ships I have already purchased?

  • All ships and submarines purchased before moving to the new “meta” will remain in your account and can be used in battle.
  • All common vehicles upgraded to Premium versions will remain in your hangar in Premium version in their respective branches and will gain the ability to earn Golden Eagles after battles.
  • All vehicles purchased through personal, seasonal, and limited-time offers will remain in your account in Premium version and will gain the ability to earn Golden Eagles after battles.
  • Some vehicles from previous seasons' trophies will remain in your account as collectible non-Premium vehicles and will not be available for obtaining in the near future or will become available for blueprints.
  • Vehicles you received from Seasonal Trophies and Historical Trophies (except for those that will become collectible – see above) will remain in your account in Premium version and will gain the ability to earn Golden Eagles after battles.

The new Ship Campaign is currently in Open Beta. The content of the branches, the cost and reward rates, ranks, some vehicle design features, camouflages, trophy content, and ways to obtain blueprints may be changed.

Captains, we wish you good luck and glorious battles in War Thunder Mobile (WTM)!
