Historical Note

The Leopard 2 PSO (Peace Support Operations) was a KMW initiative developed to Bundeswehr requirements, designed specifically for combat operations in urban environments as part of peacekeeping missions. The vehicle received a compact Euro-Powerpack engine and was configured for modular add-on equipment fitted according to mission requirements. Additional armor modules were installed on the hull sides and roof, and underside protection was reinforced.

The Leopard 2 PSO modernization program was initially postponed and ultimately discontinued in favor of upgrading the fleet to the Leopard 2A7 standard.

In Battle

War Thunder Mobile is introducing one of the most unusual variants in the Leopard 2 family – a specialized version of the 2A5 prepared for modern urban combat. The Leopard 2 PSO's primary distinction from its siblings is a set of additional composite armor modules on the hull and turret, covering the most vulnerable areas and noticeably improving survivability against missiles, HEAT rounds, and autocannon fire.

The ammunition loadout now includes the DM11 HE round – an excellent choice for engaging light targets. The primary anti-tank round remains APFSDS with penetration exceeding 620 mm.

Mobility remains excellent. Leopard-family tanks have always been renowned for their performance, and the PSO is no exception. The Euro-Powerpack engine and new transmission compensate for the increased weight, providing confident acceleration and strong overall speed.

Tactics for the Leopard 2 PSO broadly mirror those of other top-tier Leopards – a universal tank that leverages its mobility and high firepower. The reinforced sides offer a degree of additional confidence in close combat, particularly against light scouts and ATGM carriers.

That said, armor-piercing rounds from tank guns remain extremely dangerous against the side profile. Avoid unnecessary exposure – and better yet, destroy the enemy before they get their shot off.

Premium version of the Leopard 2 PSO (Rank XIV)

The Premium variant is an extra tank for your hangar! The premium tank maintains the same performance as the standard variant, though it comes in a unique camouflage. With this premium tank you’ll be able to enjoy faster Silver Lion and Research Point gains, and earn some Golden Eagles in your battles.

* The characteristics apply to a fully upgraded vehicle with a level 100 crew.

If you’re lucky enough to unlock both the premium and the standard variants, you will be able to use them both in the same battle!
